The Move, Orientation, First Day, Other Thoughts

Well, I've been up here for almost a week, and its high time I got started with the blogging.

----------------------------------------
The Move:
After a long day of packing last Saturday, we loaded up the trailer and headed to Tullahoma. It hasn't rained hardly at all this summer, but it did while we were driving. That always seems to happen when I move. Funny how that works. The apartment is pretty nice (especially for the money). Getting settled didn't take too long. Running up to Wal-Mart is pretty simple and hard to miss here in the bustling metropolis of Tullahoma, TN. A memorial service was held for the tarp that gave its life in the move.

Orientation:
New student orientation was pretty uneventful. There were about twenty (20) people there, mostly my age. There's an Army pilot, a Canadian Air Force engineer, plenty of foreign students, and some local Tennesseans. Not a bad mix, really. I'm working on my "in-processing" check in sheet. Its been described as a scavenger hunt, but its also kind of annoying. The muffins were good though.

----------------------------------------
First Day:
Applied Vector Calculus - they changed our professor last minute, but I didn't know the first guy, so it's hard to say if this is a good thing or a bad thing. The class doesn't sound too terribly hard, and it'll be a good refresher for me. I never liked math classes for math's sake (I'm an engineer, not a math teacher), but I'm rusty and this is grad school. Overall: Eeeeevil, but only annoyingly so.

Inviscid Flow - this one is taught by my research superviser, Dr. Vakili. I think the class will be pretty neat. It's essentially Fluid Mechanics again, but with a bit more detail here and there. There's a lot of the same people in this class and Vector Calc, which will hopefully improve the dynamics of both courses. Overall: Good class, challenging but in that way that's still doable and enjoyable.

Other Thoughts:
It's beautiful up here. Especially at the campus - I'll take the camera up there soon and shoot it up. The small town is nice, but I'm still getting used to it. I do miss everyone back home, especially Jennifer and my family. I will be in town over Labor Day weekend, but you'll have to get past them if you're wanting to see me.

Also, I picked this new URL because it made way more sense.
